Thus, errant writer Rob Borkowski returns from hiatus.
Yeah, it’s been a while. Time to get back into the habit of posting regularly here, because it’s a sad day when a writer posts his latest work for all the world to buy and read and rave about, and the world, with the exception of said writer’s mother and friends, shrug and ask, “Who is this schmuck?”
Today’s post is about Eddie, the zombie mascot of Iron Maiden, or at least, my personal version of him.
When my friend John died years ago, I inherited many of his belongings, among them, the power slave incarnation of Eddie, immortalized in action figure form by Art Asylum. I remembered him after seeing a friend who was using a drawing of Eddie as his profile pic on Facebook.
I’ve had the figure for years, but just discovered his mask comes off – neat. It’s also neat that pulling it off is supposed to happen, which means I haven’t broken the toy.
John and I spent many long afternoons playing D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) at his home, breaking for a walk down to CHOP (Coventry House of Pizza) and then more role playing and talk about science fiction and girls. While we played and talked, Iron Maiden would often play on John’s record player. I wasn’t much of a music fan, but hanging with John familiarized me with Run to the Hills, Two Minutes to Midnight, and The Number of the Beast, all of which seemed apt background music for sword and sorcery tales shared between two nerds.
In today’s post, we have a shot of Eddie riding a horse (part of a knight on horse set gifted to me by my nephew) on my desk this afternoon. Below, check out this link to some well-posed superhero action figures captured on camera in the course of numerous antics. Think epic today!
