So much since my now-distant last post, referencing spring in the future tense, has transpired. So much that today, Spring itself as a tangible, 50-degree, blue-skied reality has arrived.

I’m happy, and surprised at the same time – could I really have had my nose to the grindstone so long? While my recent layoff initially gave me a supposed surfeit of time to work on my writing, it turns out LOOKING for work is itself a full-time job. Also, thankfully, I lead a full life outside of my work, so the anticipated advances in my writing have not materialized.

There is also The Project Which Must Not Be Named, hereafter referred to simply as Project Rob Needs to Keep Eating, not to be confused with Get Rich Quick Schemes 1-1,097 or the Great Spaghetti Incident of 1997. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Blah, blah, blah, excuses, excuses. When do we see more stories? Soon, prospective fans, soon.

While I was away, the Nobscot Niblets, my beloved and disbanded writers group, re-constituted. On Tuesday night this week, we held our second meeting in Framingham, MA at an undislcosed Mexican eatery, a good hour’s drive from my current abode at the Cranston Penthouse (Once upon a time, I lived in Newton, MA). This meeting was a working one, and we reviewed each other’s work, including mine, a flash fiction piece, “Samaritans”.

The story tells the tale of a terraforming effort on Mars as the eleventh hour for the Big Blue Marble approaches. Earthlings get a timely assist, and that’s about all I’ll say about that one. But the Niblets loved it, and it was good to have someone besides myself waiting on my work.

So, rest assured, folks, there’s more on the way. Meanwhile, Happy Spring!
